The evening included a generous social hour, dinner, and silent and live auctions. Senator Cruz delivered a very entertaining speech peppered with pithy commentary on empowering our citizenry via the strength of the Constitution, and well-received jests about Washington D.C. leadership; having just visited there he quipped, “I’m glad to be back in the United States!” Cruz donated three autographed copies of Dr. Seuss’s Green Eggs and Ham, a nod to his reading during his filibuster last year.
Dozens of elected officials and candidates were in attendance, and of course the head table included a single empty chair in honor of the man of the hour, President Ronald Reagan. Naturally, jelly beans were present on every table.
A room crowded with so many like-minded people lent even greater approval to Senator Cruz’s reflections on the paradigm shift in our county that includes the rise of grass roots efforts. He also specifically thanked GARW and WCRW with the declaration that there is no force in politics like Republican women.
